enriched visual art stream

The Enriched Visual Art Stream is a pathway style program starting in Grade 9. Pathway programs build knowledge and skills year upon year, requiring the previous years course. This stream uses our unique studio environments and equipment. It also introduces students to Art and Media theory and focusses on reading and writing for the arts.

Grade 9

AWD1O Intro to Studio Practice
AWD1O introduces students to the processes and practices of a working artist studio. In this year we look at techniques and concepts within Drawing, Sculpture, Painting and Ceramics. AWD1O utilizes our unique studio environments.

You may enter AWD1O after you have graduated grade 8. Entry requires that you participate in the application process outlined on our homepage.

Grade 10

AWD2O builds on the skills and techniques learned in AWD1O. It introduces students to an increase in self-direction and choice and teaches students how to be accountable for self-learning. AWD2O looks at skills and concepts in Drawing, Printmaking, Painting and Animation.

You may enter AWD2O following successful completion of AWD1O. You do not need to participate in the application process. Choose AWD2O in MyBlueprint when registering for Grade 10.

Grade 11 Foundations Part 1

Grade 11 runs across 2 semesters with 2 credits in each semester. That means you are in art class 1/2 a day each day for a full year! Included in the package is ENG3C or ENG3U English. Foundations Part 1 is a rigorous look at technical and conceptual concerns within Painting, Sculpture, Digital Art, Ceramics and Drawing. It uses reading and writing to support the making of artworks to achieve an English credit.

You may enter Foundations Part 1 following successful completion of AWD2O or participate in the application process outlined on our homepage. You must have one Arts credit to apply.

Grade 12 Foundations Part 2

Grade 12 runs across 2 semesters with 2 credits in each semester. That means you are in art class 1/2 a day each day for a full year! We split the course into 4 quarters where you will get an intensive look at 2 studios within that quarter then switch for 2 new ones in the next quarter! 

Included in the package is ENG4C or ENG4U English. Foundations Part 2 is a rigorous look at technical and conceptual concerns within Painting, Sculpture, Digital Interactive Art, Ceramics and Drawing, Printmaking, Textiles and Ceramics. It uses reading and writing to support the making of artworks to achieve an English credit.

You may enter Foundations Part 2 following successful completion of Grade 11 Foundations Part 1.

Studio Practice

The Studio Practice course is for students who are interested in extending their Secondary School experience. It is an intense look at all of the studios we offer. The course is 8 credits: 4 in semester 1 and 4 in semester 2. This means that you are with us all day, every day for a full year!

The Studio Practice course is a rigorous look at technical and conceptual concerns within Painting, Sculpture, Digital Interactive Art, Ceramics and Drawing, Printmaking, Textiles and Ceramics. It uses a significant amount of reading and writing to support the making and analysis.

You may enter the Studio Practice course following successful completion of 18 compulsory core credits or following Secondary School graduation. You must participate in the application process outlined on our homepage.

Specialist

The Specialist course is for students who have completed Grade 12 Foundations Part 2 or Studio Practice course and wish to focus on 2 specific studios for an entire year. This course is almost entirely self-directed and makes students accountable for their own learning.

You will pick 2 of the studios we offer and spend 2 days a week in each. 1 day per week is scheduled in a seminar class where you will work with instructors to build your portfolio, study art history and drawing, learn and research art theory.

You may enter the Specialist course by completing Foundations Part 2 OR Studio Practice.

visual art stream

The Visual Art Stream is a series of single-credit courses intended to provide an introduction to visual art skills and techniques as well as build on existing skills. This stream uses our well equipped classroom facilities. Courses designated with an "O" are open and do not have a prerequisite. Course codes with an "M" are university/college preparation courses and require the an arts credit to enter.

There is no application process for these courses. Please select the course code in MyBlueprint when registering.
